The Dark Knight Review: Does it deserve all the hype?

Updated: Apr 27, 2021

Everyone has heard of Batman. He’s one of the most famous, if not the most famous, super heroes. Everyone has watched at least one of his movies, but the most famous of them all is “The Dark Knight.”

This movie was nominated for 8 academy awards in 2009. The movie won a staggering 30 awards, including 2 Oscars and 3 Golden Globes. But why? Well, a great part of this is due to Heath Ledger. This man put the movie on his back. He took method acting to a whole new level.

Before the movie was filmed, Ledger isolated himself for months in a hotel room to become his character. He recorded himself during this time and kept a journal to write down his thoughts. He said that this helped him with the preparation for the movie. He even stayed in character between the scenes and off camera. He said that it was essential for him to stay in character if he wanted to put in a great performance, and he did. He won many awards for best supporting actor in 2009. Unfortunately, Heath Ledger committed suicide in 2008 just after recording the movie. Some say that he went crazy, some say he was depressed.

Apart from Heath Ledger’s amazing performance, the movie’s plot was really good. The movie actually made people think and picture themselves in the difficult situation that the people of Gotham found themselves in. I won’t spoil the movie so I won’t say much about it, but the scene with the hostages aboard the boats, the Joker’s message, and what happened to Harvey Dent really makes one think about what’s wrong or right with our society. Also, the action scenes in the movie were amazing and the special effects were next level. In conclusion, this movie is totally worth watching and definitely deserves the hype. It’s not only a good superhero movie, but also a great movie overall with great acting and a great plot.
